peek inside a typical month as a Mastery Certification student!

In Katie Glassman’s Fiddle School Method, each lesson is part of a thoughtfully sequenced curriculum designed to build key fiddle skills and techniques through fiddle tunes.

The first week of every month, the Skill Building Class hones in on specific techniques, bowing patterns, and essential skills tied to one core lesson, helping you prepare for the Fiddle Tune Workout the following week.

The individual feedback in Skill Building Class will ensure you’re always on track!

week 1: skill building

The second week of every month, apply your sequential skills in a guided Fiddle Tune Workout. You'll start by jamming on assigned tunes at a relaxed pace. Then, progress by learning "Peek-Ahead" phrases—short phrases from upcoming tunes to prepare you for what’s next.

As the year unfolds, you’ll build a solid repertoire, with this class helping you review, jam, and keep the tunes fresh in your memory.

You'll receive personalized guidance and feedback throughout the class to support your progress.

week 2: tune workout

week 3: performance masterclass

Take advantage of a unique opportunity to perform and receive in-depth coaching and feedback from National Champion instructors. Play one tune by ear with live play-along accompaniment while also benefiting from supportive feedback from your peers.

Each Mastery group is divided into two groups of five fiddlers, who alternate performing in monthly Masterclasses. This ensures personalized attention and a focused learning environment.

week 4: mastery-wide activity

All Mastery class levels get together for a communal, virtual event.
This is optional, but encouraged. Activities alternate between:

Study Groups

  • Meet with your Mastery peers to review tunes and techniques, or discuss musical philosophy, preparation techniques, or nerve management.

Discussions

  • Join your teachers and fellow fiddlers in moderated group discussions designed to enrich and empower your learning. Discussions may be centered around relevant topics, or books that we're reading together in Mastery Book Club!

Jam Sessions

  • Twice per year, enjoy jamming on Fiddle School tunes with peers from all Mastery levels.

Coffeehouses

  • Twice per year, enjoy the opportunity to play in a low-key virtual performance. This is a great way to give and receive support among your peers from all Mastery levels. Family and friends are also invited to attend to hear your progress!
